Kate Major
BKin, Certified Athletic Therapist, Osteopathic Manual Therapist
Kate grew up in a remote town in Northwestern Ontario. The approximately 900 person town had no professionals trained in the assessment or treatment of musculoskeletal injuries. With the nearest therapist 80 kilometres away a large portion of locals received no rehab for their injuries. Kate sustained her share of injuries during her athletic childhood which peaked her interest in how to properly rehab for a quick and safe return to activity. After high school Kate moved to Calgary where she obtained a Bachelor of Kinesiology degree from the University of Calgary and an Advanced Certificate in Athletic Therapy from Mount Royal University. During these 4 years Kate spent a season with each of the University's wrestling, football, and field hockey teams. After completing her education Kate went on to be the Head Athletic Therapist with the Calgary Northstars hockey club spending time with Bantam AA , Midget AA, and Midget AAA teams within the organization. Kate has also worked with the Calgary Fire Female Hockey program, the Canadian Pro Rodeo Sports Medicine Team, and most recently as the Head Athletic Therapist at SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology).
Kate was privileged to have the opportunity to learn from many successful Athletic Therapists, however her hours spent in the clinic and field with Christine (fellow Athletic Therapist and Osteopathic Manual Therapist) enlightened her to the profession of Osteopathy. Understanding the high degree of connectivity within the body allows Osteopathic Manual Therapists to approach the patient as a whole rather than focusing only on the injured or painful area. This approach to the body is the reason Kate enrolled in the Canadian College of Osteopathy. Kate successfully defended her thesis and received her Osteopathic Manual Therapist designation October 31, 2021.
In her spare time Kate enjoys golfing, curling, and spending time with her husband, step-daughter, and dog.
